I’ve got to say, that out of all the countries I’ve been to (and that’s alot), Thailand is the only one where I’ve seen transsexuals, t-girls, ladyboys, katoeys or kathoeys live normal lives. Yes, they still complain of the same worldwide complaint I hear from most t-girls, that they can’t ever find true love, but they live openly and normally here in Thailand.
At any given time, any given city; Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai; if you go somewhere you’re almost GUARANTEED to see or meet a transexual “ladyboy”. Some are more convincing than others of course, but they all are treated just like any other person. In the Western world, I’d imagine they’d get jeered or laughed at by people as a not entirely convincing TS walked down the road.
Why is that? Why is Thailand so accepting of the transgendered? I may not have the answer to this, but I can speculate that since Thai men are inherently feminine, both acting and in body types, that the Third Gender, transsexuals, are more easily accepted.
